McEvoy Maritime Services is a family-built operation founded on decades of hands-on marine service experience.

At the center of the company is Bob McEvoy, whose career has been spent working in shipyards and aboard commercial vessels since he was 19 years old. Through years of hands-on work servicing azimuth thrusters, propulsion shaft seals, and line shaft bearing systems, Bob has developed a strong reputation for practical problem-solving, dependable shipyard work, and getting vessels back into operation safely and efficiently. Bob McEvoy is the third generation McEvoy in the field. The first being his grandfather, Don McEvoy, who was a Port Engineer at FOSS Maritime for 30+ years.

Supporting the company’s expertise is Ed McEvoy, whose maritime career spans more than four decades. As a former Port Engineer for Western Towboat, Ed helped oversee the construction, maintenance, and re-powering of numerous tugboats, including designing the entire builds of 20 conventional and Z-drive tugs. His consulting experience brings valuable insight not only into propulsion systems, but also vessel design, construction, and operational considerations.

Now stepping into the industry is Colbie McEvoy, Bob’s son and Ed’s grandson, representing the fourth generation of the family in the maritime trade. Currently working alongside experienced technicians, Colbie is developing the hands-on skills required to carry forward the knowledge and standards that have defined the McEvoy name in the industry.

Together with trusted technicians and crew members, including specialists working alongside the team in shipyards and in the field, McEvoy Maritime Services brings practical experience and deep industry knowledge to every project.

A large portion of repair work in the maritime industry requires components to be replaced or removed and shipped to specialized facilities for inspection/overhaul.

At McEvoy Maritime Services, we take a different approach whenever possible.

By performing diagnostics, inspections, repairs, and seal replacements directly on-site, we help shipyards and vessel owners avoid unnecessary shipping delays, reduce costs, and maintain full visibility into the work being performed. The work done to re-machine and recondition existing parts avoids the costs of full parts replacements.

Working directly alongside shipyard crews also allows problems to be identified and solved faster — often preventing small issues from becoming major failures.

On-Site Repairs and Overhauls

We perform inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and full overhauls directly on board or within the shipyard.
By working where the vessel is located, we eliminate unnecessary transport of major components and keep the work visible to vessel owners, engineers, and shipyard teams.

Repair and Recondition Before Replacing

When possible, we re-machine and recondition existing components rather than immediately replacing them with costly new parts.
This practical approach helps extend component life, reduce repair costs, and keep vessels operational without unnecessary delays.

    Bob McEvoy

    FOUNDER | MARINE SERVICE SPECIALIST

    Bob McEvoy has spent more than two decades working on commercial vessels and propulsion systems around the world. He began his career at 19 working aboard vessels in the same port where his father, Ed McEvoy, built his reputation in the maritime industry. Starting in the galley and working his way through hands-on roles during his 11 years at Western Towboat - including diving repairs and inspections on drive units - Bob developed a deep understanding of how working boats operate from the inside out.

    Fourteen years ago he began contracting independently through Pacific Star Marine, focusing on propulsion system service and troubleshooting for commercial vessels.

    Bob specializes in azimuth thrusters, line shaft bearings, and propeller shaft seals — critical systems that keep vessels operating safely and efficiently. Known for his ability to re-machine and recondition components that others replace, he regularly helps shipyards and vessel operators save significant time and cost while keeping repairs transparent and on site.

    Over the years he has supported projects across Alaska, Hawaii, the U.S. East and West Coasts, and internationally, including New Zealand. Bob continues to work closely with shipyards, engineers, and vessel owners to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and keep fleets operating reliably.

    Through McEvoy Maritime Services, his mission is simple: provide practical propulsion expertise, keep vessels running safely, and pass hard-earned knowledge on to the next generation of marine technicians.

    Ed McEvoy

    MARINE ENGINEER | TUG DESIGN & MECHANICAL CONSULTANT

    Ed McEvoy has spent more than four decades working in the commercial tug and maritime industry, building a reputation as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected tugboat engineers and mechanical specialists.

    After graduating high school, Ed entered Caterpillar’s apprentice program through NC Marine in Seattle, training as a journeyman mechanic before beginning a long career working on commercial vessels. Early in his career he crab fished in the Bering Sea aboard the F/V American Eagle before moving into mechanical service work supporting towboats and the Bering Sea crab fleet.

    Over the years Ed worked both independently and with major operators including Western Towboat, where he served as Port Engineer and oversaw the maintenance, repowering, and construction of numerous tugboats. During his time there he helped design, manage, and maintain the building of 20 conventional and Z-drive tugs and led major repower and upgrade projects for vessels including the Donna Foss, Claudia Foss, and the Oio.

    Throughout his career Ed has specialized in tug propulsion systems, vessel mechanical design, and practical engineering solutions. He has designed and built tow winches, headline winches, tow pins, and retractable masts, and patented a tow pin assembly. He also worked with Centa Coupling to develop upgrades incorporating carbon fiber shafting in Z-drive propulsion systems.

    With a 100-ton near-coastal towing license and more than 40 years spent keeping tugboats running, Ed brings a lifetime of hands-on knowledge to the industry.

    Today, he continues to support McEvoy Maritime Services as a consulting marine engineer, sharing decades of hard-earned experience with vessel owners, engineers, and the next generation of marine technicians.

    Colbie McEvoy

    MARINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

    Colbie McEvoy represents the next generation of the McEvoy maritime family. After graduating high school and continuing his studies at community college, he is now on his second year building hands-on experience in the marine propulsion and vessel service trade.

    Colbie currently works alongside experienced technicians and Pacific Star Marine personnel, gaining practical training in vessel systems and propulsion equipment. His work focuses on assisting with inspections, service work, and on-site repairs while learning the systems that keep commercial vessels operating safely.

    Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to learn, Colbie is committed to developing the skills required to work independently in the field. As he continues his training, he is expanding his knowledge of propulsion units, vessel systems, and marine mechanical service with the goal of becoming a well-rounded marine technician.

    Sam Mitchell

    MARINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

    Sam Mitchell is a marine electrical technician with a strong foundation in electrical systems and engineering studies. After graduating high school, Sam continued pursuing college-level engineering coursework while working as an apprentice electrician, gaining practical experience in electrical installation, diagnostics, and system troubleshooting.

    He additionally works with Mitchell Electrical LLC in Colville, Washington, where he continues to develop his skills under experienced journeyman electricians while expanding his technical knowledge of electrical systems and controls.

    Through his work with McEvoy Maritime Services and training alongside Pacific Star Marine technicians, Sam supports electrical work aboard commercial vessels, assisting with diagnostics, system troubleshooting, and onboard electrical service. His hands-on experience in both construction and marine environments allows him to approach problems with a practical, solutions-focused mindset.

    Passionate about the field, Sam plans to continue his education with specialized training in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and advanced electrical systems. His goal is to deepen his expertise in marine electrical systems while continuing to grow alongside the McEvoy team.

    Cayli McEvoy

    MEDIA & PROJECT DOCUMENTATION

    Cayli McEvoy supports McEvoy Maritime Services by providing media documentation and project coverage for vessel service and shipyard work.

    With a background in digital media and content production, Cayli captures and documents propulsion repairs, shipyard projects, and behind-the-scenes operations to create clear visual records for vessel owners, shipyards, and industry audiences. Her work helps showcase the technical processes involved in vessel maintenance while also producing professional media assets that shipyards and companies can use for training, marketing, and internal documentation.

    Having grown up around the maritime industry through her father and grandfather, Cayli brings both familiarity with vessel operations and a modern media approach to documenting the work being done in the field.
